Duration: 6 months, renewable based on performance and funding

Afrihealth for Social Development and Impact (ASDI) is a non-profit organisation dedicated to promoting public health, sustainable development, and inclusive governance in Africa. Through partnerships with communities, governments, and civil society, ASDI implements programs that drive social impact and strengthen systems for long-term development, sustainability and accountability.
Position Summary
- The Head of Operations will ensure effective management and implementation of programs and operations while adhering to established policies, procedures, and standards.
- This role is crucial in providing strategic leadership, overseeing day-to-day activities, and fostering an environment of collaboration and excellence.
Responsibilities
The selected candidate will be responsible for:
Operations Management:
- Lead and manage the operations team to ensure efficient and effective implementation of programs.
- Develop and implement operational policies, procedures, and guidelines in line with organisational objectives.
- Coordinate with other departments to ensure seamless integration of operations, programs, and logistics.
- Monitor and evaluate operational performance, identifying areas for improvement and taking corrective actions as necessary.
- Ensure compliance with donor requirements, national regulations, and organisational policies.
Financial Management:
- Oversee budgeting, financial planning, and ensure optimal utilisation of resources.
- Provide guidance and support to the finance team in budget development, financial reporting, and internal controls.
- Monitor expenditures and financial reports, ensuring accountability and transparency in financial management.
Logistics and Procurement:
- Supervise the logistics and procurement team in planning and implementing procurement processes per organisation’s policies and donor regulations.
- Monitor the supply chain, logistics operations, and asset management.
- Oversee warehouse management and inventory control systems.
Security and Risk Management:
- Collaborate with the security team to develop and implement adequate security protocols and measures for staff, assets, and operations.
- Conduct regular risk assessments, develop mitigation strategies, and ensure staff adherence to security protocols.
Personnel Management:
- Provide leadership and support to the operations team, ensuring a conducive work environment.
- Supervise and mentor staff, promoting capacity building and professional development.
- Conduct regular performance appraisals and provide constructive feedback.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in operations management, Business Administration, or related field. Master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum of 6 years’ experience in operations management, preferably within the health sector or NGO.
Required Skills
- In-depth knowledge of NGO operational strategies, including logistics, procurement, finance, and security management.
- Excellent organisational, analytical, decision-making and problem-solving skills.
- Strong leadership and management skills, with experience in leading diverse teams.
- Ability to optimise processes and manage resources efficiently.
- Proven ability to work effectively under pressure, in challenging and complex environments.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to build relationships with stakeholders.
- Fluency in English is required, and knowledge of local languages is desirable.
