Position Title: Head of Accounts

Location: Abuja

Reports To: Executive Director

Duration: 6 months, renewable based on performance and funding

Level of Effort: Part-Time

Afrihealth for Social Development and Impact (ASDI) is a non-profit organisation dedicated to promoting public health, sustainable development, and inclusive governance in Africa. Through partnerships with communities, governments, and civil society, ASDI implements programs that drive social impact and strengthen systems for long-term development, sustainability and accountability.

Responsibilities

• Performs month-end accounting activities such as bank, cards and petty cash reconciliations.
• Validates financial transactions according to company policies and regulations.
• Assist in internal and external auditing activities by providing necessary information and preparing requested documentation.
• Monitor the accuracy of all accounting entries and the precision of supporting documentation.
• Validates accounting entries to the general ledger and creates recurring journal entries.
• Adequately monitors project advances, prepayments and accrued expenses.
• Ensures compliance with cost allocation policy and all other Federal funding cost guidelines.
• Oversees the general ledger system and Trial Balance and ensures timely corrections are made.
• Interprets the company’s financial results to management and recommends improvement activities.
• Reviews company bottlenecks and recommends changes to improve the overall level of company throughput as it relates to the processing of accounts payable.
• Monitor expenditures, analyse revenues and determine budget variances and report the same to management.

Qualifications and Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field. CPA or equivalent certification preferred.
• Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience, including leadership roles in non-profits or health organisations.
• A professional qualification such as CPA, CA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent 
• Previous experience in establishing functional Finance Function (Accounting, Budget and Disbursement/Treasury)

• Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial regulations and compliance.
• Proficiency in budget management, financial planning, and audits.
• Experience with accounting software and financial management systems.
• Proficiency in accounting software and financial analysis.
• Excellent attention to detail and analytical skills.
